Turning my Hobby into a Career

When it comes to finding a career after high school, my friends have all taken different routes. Some of them have just gone out into the workforce and filled roles in the community working at shopping centers, restaurants and janitors. Their goal is to make money right away or maybe they just didn’t have enough money to go to college. There is another group of friends that I have that are chasing the money by pursuing careers in college that they might not like, but rather will provide them with a lavish lifestyle. For them, the money they make is the deciding factor on their jobs, and I think that they assume that the money they do make will allow them to buy the toys that they want to make them happy. As for myself, I am doing something a little different, and I am looking at turning my hobby into my career.

For the past ten years I have been spending evenings and weekends out in our garage with my father working on his motorcycles. He has always been a bit of a tinkerer and I have learned a lot from him. He has shown me everything he knows and I would like to think that I know my way around a bike. But when I went out and applied at some of the shops here in the city for work after high school, they just turned me down because I had not attended an accredited motorcycle repair school and they had no proof that I knew what I was doing.

Since I don’t like backing down from a challenge, I have enrolled myself in school and I am planning to attend in the fall. I think it should be easy as I have a lot of experience working on motorcycles and I think it will be a great move as I will be doing something I love. I think repairing motorcycles will be the perfect job for me.
